Steel Bridge

The MSOE student chapter of ASCE competes in a Steel Bridge Competition each year.  This event challenges students to design and fabricate all components of a steel bridge.  The bridge must be built to conform to competition specifications regarding load-bearing capacity, maximum deflection, length, height and aesthetic quality.  During the competition MSOE students compete against UW-Madison, Purdue, University of Evansville, University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and other universities in the Great Lakes Region.  Although MSOE is still developing their style in this competition, their spirit is helping them continue their quest for excellence.

Steel Bridge 2006

The 2006 Steel Bridge Team designed, fabricated, and built a truss type bridge for the ASCE Regional Competition at UW-Madison.  Groups were formed to complete certain tasks; this included a Design Committee, Rules Committee, Fabrication & Testing Committee, and Competition Team.  The process began once the rules became available when a preliminary design and models were made by the Design Team.  Once the design was finalized, we began computer modeling and connection testing.  Once the testing phase is complete and the design met all rules and requirements, the Fabrication Team took over and built the bridge over the course of a few weeks.  Once the bridge was complete, the competition team practiced and prepared for the Regional Competition.  We had another great year and improved as a team overall.

For more information about upcoming team meetings and events, check the website regularly.  Take a look at the links below to learn more about the 2007 Regional Competition.  Feel free to contact any of the Steel Bridge Chairs with any other questions or comments.
